The healing power of : Watercress.

This month, researchers at Southampton University discovered that within hours of eating 3oz of watercress a day – about a full cereal bowl – a small group of breast cancer survivors had a higher level of cancer-fighting molecules in their blood.
They found the compound phenethyl isothiocyanate – which gives watercress its peppery taste – blocks the hypoxia-inducible factor protein which helps cancer tumours grow.
They also found watercress helps ‘turn off’ the signals that cancer cells send out asking the body for more blood and oxygen.
Professor Graham Packham, who led the research, said: ‘I was surprised that eating one portion produced significant levels of this compound in the blood. It has the potential to have the same effect with other cancers.’

It is an excellent source of natural phytonutrients, substances in plants that have antioxidant properties such as isothiocyanates, flavonoids and carotenoids.
It also contains folate, which helps maintain normal blood levels of homocysteine (high levels are associated with an increased coronary heart disease risk) as well as decreasing the risk of neural tube defects such as spina bifida.

Watercress, common in Europe, North America, and lower South America, is an aquatic perennial that grows in regions that have small natural streams and limestone. The plants thrive when submerged in fresh running water, and there is no danger of winter-killing as long as the water does not freeze solid. Watercress grows in moist soil, usually along the banks of streams, and in recent years has been grown in greenhouses. Partial shade, moist soil, high humidity, and lime result in satisfactory growth. It is grown for its small, round, pungent leaves, which are eaten raw as salads or as garnishes, and as an ingredient in soups. Because of its flavor, watercress makes a tangy seasoning agent.
Brazilians have used watercress for treating tuberculosis, and experiments have reportedly shown improvement in a number of patients. Supposedly, the bacteria in watercress destroys the tuberculosis bacteria. Natives of Brazil have long produced a syrup which is claimed, in some cases, to be a remedy for this disease. This syrup is made by placing alternate layers of moist watercress and sugar in an earthen jar and burying it for fifteen to twenty days. After the liquid settles, the resulting syrup is supposed to be palliative and curative.

Cannabis sativa hemp oil, contains the cure for cancer and other ailments.

Cannabis sativa, the cure for cancer and other ailments. In blacklisting Marijuana a great herb and medicine is banned from the healing market. The product is SO much linked to junkies and criminals that the benefits became totally out of side.

But there's a difference between Hemp Oil and Hemp Seed Oil...
Hemp seed oil is made from the seeds only while Hemp oil is a product from the entire plant.

After a serious head injury in 1997, Rick Simpson sought relief from his medical condition through the use of medicinal hemp oil. When Rick discovered that the hemp oil  cured cancers and other illnesses, he tried to share it with as many people as he could free of charge, curing and controlling literally hundreds of people’s illnesses… but when the story went public, the long arm of the law snatched the medicine – leaving potentially thousands of people without their cancer treatments – and leaving Rick with unconsitutional charges of possessing and trafficking marijuana.

There are literally hundreds upon hundreds of scientific studies showing cannabinoids like tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and cannabidiol (CBD), as well as whole plant formulations, are effective against any disease you can think of. Here are just a few conditions that science has proven cannabinoids are therapeutically active against:  Arthritis, Cancer, Crohn's, Diabetes, Fibromyalgia, MS, Parkingson's, Glaucoma...

Therapeutic Hemp Oil

The nutritional composition of oil from the marijuana plant could be beneficial to your health. To most people, Cannabis sativa is synonymous with marijuana, but the plant's Latin name means the "useful hemp." Species designated sativa (useful) are usually among the most important of all crops. In fact, the utility of hemp is manifold: the plant has provided human beings with fiber, edible seeds, an edible oil, and medicine, not just a notorious mind-altering drug.
In our part of the world, these other uses of hemp are no longer familiar. We rarely use hemp fiber and know little about hemp medicine. Some cancer patients have found it to be a superior remedy for the nausea caused by chemotherapy, and some people with multiple sclerosis are grateful for its relaxant effects on spastic muscles. Hemp seed is sometimes an ingredient in bird food; otherwise, edible products from Cannabis sativa were virtually unknown.
This is all changing. In many parts of the country, promoters of hemp cultivation are working to educate people about the immense potential of this plant and to reintroduce it into commerce. They champion hemp as a renewable source of pulp for the manufacture of paper, as a superior fiber for making cloth, and as a new food that can be processed into everything from a milk substitute to a kind of tofu.
Hemp seeds contain 25% high quality protein and 40% fat in the form of an excellent quality oil. Hemp oil is just now coming on the market. Produced by the Ohio Hempery in Athens, Ohio, it will be sold through natural food stores in small, opaque bottles to be kept under refrigeration. It has a remarkable fatty acid profile, being high in the desirable omega-3s and also delivering some GLA (gamma-linolenic acid) that is absent from the fats we normally eat. Nutritionally oriented doctors believe all of these compounds to be beneficial to health.
Hemp oil contains 57% linoleic (LA) and 19% linolenic (LNA) acids, in the three-to-one ratio that matches our nutritional needs. These are the essential fatty acids (EFAs)-so called because the body cannot make them and must get them from external sources. The best sources are oils from freshly ground grains and whole seeds, but EFAs are fragile and quickly lost in processing. EFAs are the building blocks of longer chain fats, such as eicosapentaenoic (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) that occur naturally in the fat of cold-water fish like sardines, mackerel, salmon, bluefish, herring, and, to a lesser extent, tuna.
Adding these foods to the diet seems to lower risks of heart attacks because omega-3 fatty acids reduce the clotting tendency of the blood and improve cholesterol profiles. They also have a natural anti-inflammatory effect that makes them useful for people with arthritis and autoimmune disorders.

Hemp oil contains more EFAs than flax and actually tastes good. It is nutty and free from the objectionable undertones of flax oil. I use it on salads, baked potatoes, and other foods and would not consider putting it in capsules.
Like flax oil, hemp oil should be stored in the refrigerator, used quickly, and never heated. Unlike flax oil, hemp oil also provides 1.7% gamma-linolenic acid (GLA). There is controversy about the value of adding this fatty acid to the diet, but many people take supplements of it in the form of capsules of evening primrose oil, black currant oil, and borage oil. My experience is that it simulates growth of hair and nails, improves the health of the skin, and can reduce inflammation.
I like the idea of having one good oil that supplies both omega-3s and GLA, without the need to take more capsules.
One of the questions that people are sure to ask about hemp oil is whether it has any psychoactivity. The answer is no. The intoxicating properties of Cannabis sativa reside in a sticky resin produced most abundantly in the flowering tops of female plants before the seeds mature. The main psychoactive compound in this resin is tetrahydrocannabinol (THC).
Strains of hemp grown for oil production have a low resin content to begin with, and by the time the seeds are ready for harvest, resin production has dropped even further. Finally, the seeds must be cleaned and washed before they are pressed.
As a result,

A second question that people may ask is, "Is hemp(seed)oil illegal?" The oil itself is perfectly legal. Hemp seeds are allowed in commerce if they have been sterilized in some way to prevent germination. This is usually done by subjecting them to heat.
Obviously, there is a political dimension to the appearance of this product. For many years, Cannabis sativa has been stigmatized as a satanic plant and its cultivation has been prohibited. As an ethnobotanist interested in the relationships between plants and human beings, I have always felt that making plants illegal was stupid, especially when the objects of these actions are supremely useful plants like hemp. The plant is not responsible for human misuse of it.
The efforts of companies in the hemp industry and other groups to promote hemp cultivation are part of a campaign to rehabilitate this plant and change society's view of it. Whether or not you wish to join that campaign, it must seem counterproductive to deny ourselves access to the many benefits that hemp offers. Of those, the gift of an edible oil with superior nutritional and therapeutic properties is one of the most important.
If you have a chance to try hemp oil, a long forgotten, newly rediscovered food, I think you will see why I am enthusiastic about it.
Andrew Weil teaches at the University of Arizona College of Medicine, has a private medical practice, and is the author of Natural Health, Natural Medicine.

Penicillin of the 21st century
Answers to the question if cannabis cures or if it's a drug greatly differ. Yet the last years' results of the scientific teams in the whole world say that as long as hemp is applied correctly and moderately as a treatment of people that do not use it for other things than healing, it could act positively on many diseases including cancer.

''Just like penicillin was considered miraculous medicine of the 1940's, even hemp could become a miraculous cure of the 21st century in the end,'' says Lester Grinspoon, ex-professor of the faculty of medicine at Harvard University, active member of the organization for legalization of the effects of marijuana and author of the book Marihuana - forbidden medicine.

''Marijuana is remarkably non-toxic, having a wide range of medical applications and if it was legal it would also be inexpensive,''
declares Grinspoon.

New hope for cancer
British medical doctors confirmed positive effects of hemp in the treatment of the Crohn's disease. The research proves that hemp alleviates pain, restores appetite and reduces the need for taking usual meds. The products of healing hemp cosmetic help with the on-going dermal problems and difficulties. Also the scientists noted positive effects of marihuana during arthrosis treatment. The Swiss medical doctors also confirmed the effects on atherosclerosis. Their study showed that cannabis reduces clogging of blood vessels. In glaucoma, which is one of the most common causes of blindness, it was proven that cannabis can reduce intraocular pressure by up to fifty percent.

But that is not all - cannabis can have beneficial effects on asthma sufferers, it can improve condition of patients with Parkinson's disease, multiple sclerosis, helps in the treatment of AIDS and in up to 60 percent of epileptics. The latest research goes even further according to it cannabis helps even with cancer. American scientific team proved its anti-carcinogenic effects in 1947. Not only patients tolerate chemotherapy better with it, but some types of cancer can also be healed by it. If the effect is proved by tests that are currently being performed by a team of Spanish medical doctors, cannabis could be a new hope for oncology.

Lesser evil than meds
Despite the proven positive effects adverse reactions can also occur - depression, anxiety, paranoia and memory impairment - which should be considered before treatment. ''Compared to many drugs that doctors prescribe it is a harmless substance,'' said Professor Abrams, University of California. ''This is not a harmless drug, but is far less harmful than alcohol and tobacco,'' says Professor Grinspoon already quoted.
Cannabis should in no case be consumed in large - positive effects on those who have more experience with the drug were not observed. In any case there is a new hope that cannabis, a drug known already for five thousand years, will cause a revolution in the 21st century.

CANNABIS, medicine of the 21st century?
Cannabis in Latin, mostly known as marihuana, boo or hashish comes from Himalayas. It has been known for thousands of years for its healing effect, but only now it attracts attention of medical doctors all around the world. It can do wonders, being used in patients with defined diagnosis, even in treatment of serious and otherwise incurable diseases.

The hemp, together with hop belongs to a hemp subfamily, it is an annual dioecious herb that can be classified within 3 basic categories'' sown hemp (Cannabis sativa), Indian hemp (Cannabis indica) and a weed hemp (Cannabis ruderalis). These 3 types differ in appearance and growth - some of them may reach the height of up to 6 meters and in content of the efficient substance of THC. It has its origin in Asia, on the western sides of Himalayas.
In its dry form it is classified as drug. The mixture of the dried leaves and footstalks altogether with the petals became commonly known as marihuana, whilst the resin, obtained from female plants and being 6 times more efficient, is known as hashish.

Cannabis seed is the MOST Nutritional Seed for humans.

.

I googled on hempoil in Holland, it's for sale here, but it's not allowed to promote or publish all its benefits ( due to EU 'rules', fuck Brussels) cos that would be an "unfair competition" with the REGULAR medicine. The farmacy don't want us to talk about this healthy product. NO KIDDING.

Rotterdam to stimulate city agriculture.

City farm.

Home growing, quite the opposite from what's happening in some parts of the world. Hé, we Dutch know what that means..! But NO, I'm not talking growing your own weed....

Rotterdam is planning to stimulate City-agriculture (fruits and fegs) on suitable places in and around town. Even rooftops were mentioned. The harvested products may be used for personal consumption or to be sold on the local markets and canteens..! First estimates go as far as 5-10% of the total turn over. I personaly would prefer to consume these local products, cos most, if not ALL imported fuits and vegetables, especially those from outside the EU, are 'treated' with heavy fertilizer boosts, pesticides and anti-fungi chemicals.

Did you notice the apples in your supermarket? Do you ever find a wormhole in it nowadays ? If you find one, take it, that's a GOOD one. This apple didn't kill the worm so it probably won't harm you either...!!! And when the worm is still inside, eat it, it's nutricious and rich in protein. Don't say 'yak' now, say it when you're chewing poisoned peels...

That would mean a tremendous cut in transportation costs and air pollution by delivering trucks. CO2 levels will drop cos all these plants love to 'inhale' the carbons and 'exhale' oxygen after photo synthesis .

Yes, I see the benefits. Healthier and cheaper fruits and food, less traffic and cleaner air..

I adopted this plan. Great, Rotterdam...!!

'Tawa-tawa' weed a cure vs. Dengue? (knokkelkoorts)

By Rudy A. Fernandez (The Philippine Star) Updated September 17, 2010 12:00 AM Comments (5)
Photo is loading...
UST researchers found mice treated with the decoction of ‘tawa-tawa’ had an increase in blood platelets essential for blood clotting or anti-bleeding.
LOS BAÑOS, Laguna, Philippines – A common weed named “tawa-tawa” has been said to be an effective cure for dengue. (knokkelkoorts)

Attesting to this are some villagers in Mindanao, who believe that decoction of “tawa-tawa” (scientific name: euphoria hirta) is said to be an antidote to dengue.
Is there any scientific evidence to such a claim?
Dr. Rafael Guerrero III, academician of the National Academy of Science and Technology (NAST), cited the study of a research team of the University of Santo Tomas (UST).
According to Guerrero, Hazel Lopez and her co-workers at the UST College of Pharmacy have published a poster showing that laboratory mice treated with the decoction of “tawa-tawa” had an increase in blood platelets which are essential for blood clotting or anti-bleeding.
“Moreover, they found that the decoction was not toxic to the test animals even at a dosage of 483 milligrams per kilogram,” said Guerrero, who retired not too long ago as executive director of the Los Baños-based Department of Science and Technology-Philippine Council for Aquatic and Marine Research and Development.
In preparing the decoction, the research team washed and boiled 100 grams of fresh, whole “tawa-tawa” plant (including roots) in half a liter (500 milliliters) of water for 15 minutes.
“After cooling and paper filtration, the decoction is taken by the patient at one glass every hour until the fever subsides,” Guerrero said in a published report entitled “The Farm as Pharmacy.”
In the old days when pharmacies were not yet heard of, forests, farms, and unmanicured gardens were the drugstores, said the academician of NAST, the country’s highest advisory and recommendatory body in science and technology.
“Except that nobody really buys the herbs and medicinal plants. They can just be freely picked from their stems as they grow in wild abandon everywhere,” he added.
Today, as the world screams for natural healing, plants, herbs, and weeds are slowly becoming alternatives for synthetic tablets and capsules.
“Sometimes, without us knowing it, what reside in our backyard or neighbors’ gardens can just be the perfect antidotes to your lingering illness,” he said.
Every year, Guerrero said thousands of Filipinos die of dengue or hemorrhagic fever caused by a virus transmitted by the Aedes egypti mosquito. The disease is characterized by rashes, high fever, bleeding, and drop in the blood platelet count of patients.
Can “tawa-tawa” eventually become an antidote to dengue? Over time, further research can provide the answer to this question.

But it probably ends on the blacklist of forbidden herbs, like so many....

A Dangerous Life.

Ruben Rustia as Ferdinand Marcos in "A Dangerous Life"

I did a lot of shooting in the movies, most of the time with guns. But this time it was a camera. I play one of the reporters during the revolution in the Philippines. The People Power Revolution, Gary Busy does the lead in this TV documentary that takes about 8 hours to view...

Working title: The 4 day Revolution, but released as: A Dangerous Life.
This movie was special to me  'cause I was on the spot of  action at the time it's referring to...in the middle of the Revolution, that is: 1986.  Then I followed the news on TV and didn't go to Manila anymore, hell no. I stayed in the province..!!!. It was an exciting period, with lots of action, millions of people in the streets and speeches from mr. president: Ferdinand Marcos live on TV.. Oh, he was a master in speeches and did so for hours, all by heart. It was fascinating to hear him speak but it was also obvious he'd lost support from the pinoy people.

I remember the commelec farce, the hilarious vote-counting and the protesting people on EDSA. ( Epifanio Delos Santos Avenue). Tanks at camp Aguinaldo, tanks in the streets. But hardly any bloodshed.. Henry Strzalkowski told me recently he had to duck and run to prevent to get hit by (stray) bullets.

 Henry Strzalkowski:

"I and some close friends got a full adult dose when on the third day, Marcos loyalist troops opened fire on us from the Channel 9 tower. A young teen was struck by M16 fire just a few feet from me, and I and my friend Steve Rogers rushed him to a jeepney and tried to get him to East Avenue Medical Center emergency. He bled out in my arms. It was a time I won't soon forget."

Until the last minute the cameras were rolling at Malacañang Palace, Marcos tried to convince the nation, but he couldn't anymore. He was too ill. The helicopter took off for Hawaii, loaded with gold bars, no room for Imelda's shoes...! A house wife became president...Corry Aquino.
It was suppose to be a turn in history, but not much really changed.

The shooting of this movie was like a 'deja vu'.  Just the bullets weren't real......(Some shots were taken  in other Asian countries, even Australia.)

It was an outstanding cast to work with, Gary turned out to be a great guy with sence of humor, I liked him.
The lead actress who also played a foreign correspondent and girlfriend of Bussey was Rebecca Gilling, an Australian who was known for her role as a protagonist who was thought to have been killed by a crocodile who came back with a vengeance in “Return to Eden”.  As correspondents in the movie, they were able to dramatize the historical events that happened between 1983 up to 1986 and interacted with the characters who were based on real people. They were able to find leads with the help of their contact with the U.S. Embassy who sometimes helped them when they were caught in dangerous situations. Many risks are encountered by foreign correspondents then and now where ever in the world.
It's only a small part for me in this movie. I'm a press photographer like a dozen others and we follow the scene, shouting and shooting our cameras. Trying to get as close as we can...

Grape seed extract kills cancer cells...

Nature's Way Grape Seed Ext Standardzd - 30 countAn extract from grape seeds can kill cancer cells. This is the result of a research done at the University of Kentucky.
“Within 24 hours 76 percent of the leukemia cells had died, while the healthy cells were not effected at all”, reports the scientific magazine Clinical Cancer Research.
It has been known for a longer time that antioxidants in grape seeds fight cancer, but this is the first time that their effects on leukemia were measured.
The researchers saw the the grape seed extract activated a protein that regulates apoptosis. Apoptosis or the programmed death of cells is a natural way to kill damaged or dangerous cells.
This study can possibly lead to new ways of treating cancer, but scientists say that it is still too early to recommend eating grapes as a way of preventing cancer.
“Although it is very interresting, there is still a long way to go before this can be used as a cancer treatment, says cancer specialist Kat Arney.

Better don't chew the seeds from your grapes, they're bitter and it irritates you're gums..
